I spent my birthday in the home of fellow Creative Writing alum Sativa January with her husband Joe and her babies, Ruby and Harper. Sativa took me to the best bakery for breakfast and toured me through a slew of wineries. I was sideways by the afternoon, napping and buzzed. Then, a lovely piece of salmon with pureed olives, baby greens, and dill potatoes for dinner at Angele. I drank a vodka lemonade with rosemary cocktail named Diane Lane (had to gear away from the grapes). Dessert was a sweet strawberry shortcake. It was exactly the sort of day I wanted full of bliss and relaxing. The next morning, I departed for Big Sur. But, before leaving town, I stopped at the amazingly photogenic and delicious Fremont Diner for biscuits and a salted caramel milkshake! Yes, for breakfast. Vacation.
